Original Creation

Midnight rowboat

Voy Kay 19 Feb 2020

Felt very motivated today and wanted something really flashy. I placed this painting here since Bob's creation suits somewhat with my midnight boat that is docked/attached to a pier.
Canvas used was 12"x16" and prepared with liquid white. The sky was sheer joy to paint with, amongst others, some 'Magenta', a brand new colour I introduced. The tree was never easy since I had quite some troubles with the paint, even with lots of paint thinner. The tiny leaves and flowers were made with the water sprinkling method (see my article!). The distant horizon has a hint of some trees and was done with a waver brush and Ivory black. Since sky and water have the same colouring, also the reflection on the pier has them, along with some white (moonlight) and some black (midnight!). The boat was not that easy (again the paint that sticked poorly!) but in general, I think this is just a beautiful painting and I needed a satisfying result after some miscreations lately. Please enjoy, AND READ SOME ARTICLES! :)

Voy, these colors remind me Japanese art. (https://www.ngv.vic.gov.au/exhibition/hokusai/#)
You did great here! I am thinking to paint moon scene. I learnt cool trick how to make a moon shiny, however, I have not practiced it yet. As soon as I do I'll post an article as I'll need to take pictures along. Also that method does not involve liquid white or clear. That is going to be interesting!

Dear Sunnylady, never would have made the link with Japanese art, which I like a lot (ancient ones!). Interesting! I visited such art museum (paint and drawings) in Hiroshima and adore the style. Although the best I saw in that particular style was in Seoul, South Korea.
It's funny that you mention the moon scene. I have one prepared for over two weeks now (winter scene with giant moon) and hope to start and finish it still this month! So we might be posting moon scenes together! I will use liquid clear though, else it will be too hard to put it over black gesso. Good luck with that endeavour dear and till soon!

Yes, it can be, I saw a lot of Okiyou while in Japan and Korea. It was unintentional since I simply liked the colouring and wanted a docked boat in my painting. Thanks for commenting!!
